“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”- Colossians 3:2
You know what’s fun? Splinters (I got one yesterday so this was fresh on my mind). They are painful, inconvenient, and they can cause serious damage if left untreated. I think each of us have dealt with that a few times in our lives, but are we allowing metaphorical splinters to invade our Spiritual walk? Maybe it’s an idol that we keep putting our faith in, maybe it is sin we keep committing in secret, maybe we continue to sit in anger or even talk ruthlessly about someone behind their back, the bottom line is that these “splinters” need to be removed or the damage could continue to grow and grow. God desires us to be pure, focused on the things of Heaven, His word, His plans, so if we continue to let these earthly things prod us and if we continue to let them sit without attention or urgency, they will continue to separate us from Him. We must lay down our idols, lay down our sin, our desires and surrender to the One who is worthy of our praise today, tomorrow and for the rest of our days. Let us focus on the things of Heaven, not the temporary “treasures” that this world has to offer. And let us help those around us see the need to remove the splinters that are present in their lives too. Let our lives be a reflection of a focus on Jesus and let us be the reason someone sees Jesus today.
