“And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.”- Psalm 9:10
In recent days on my Spotify shuffle, the song by Kate Bush titled: “Running Up That Hill” has popped up a few times, and the chorus of the song has these lyrics: “And if I only could, I’d make a deal with God, and get Him to swap our places.” Just a song, right? But, when we think about it, how many of us have been in the same position as these lyrics depict? Bartering with God to give us that relationship, or that job, that raise, that big break, or maybe to swap places with someone who seems more successful, more along than we think we should be, wishing for a life that isn’t our own? I have been there, and what I’m continuing to learn is that it goes back to a central truth we must live out daily: Trusting God. Sometimes that may seem easier said than done, sometimes we think we deserve control, we have the best laid plans for our life, but that isn’t the case. His plans for us are perfect, maybe not in our own eyes sometimes, but look back at the times where it seemed hopeless, where it seemed directionless. He came in and made a way, He came in a provided, protected, and He has always been by our side, and always will be. Your life is a beautiful story that He continues to write, we are too busy focusing on what we don’t have than all He has done. Let us change that narrative, let us focus on our story, our lives instead of playing the comparison, because in Christ, there is no comparison, He is who He says He is, He is in control, His plans are better than anything we could ever imagine and we must continue to trust in His plans, His ways, His word, every single day. So what will we do?
