“And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’” — Matthew 25:40
Serving others, caring for others in their time of need, who comes to mind when you think of people who would give the shirt off their back for someone else? My mind jumps to two people quickly. A married couple in our local church, Felix and Stephanie Zuniga. Felix runs a barbershop in Gainesville, serving the local community, as well as recently being able to step into the local jail to give inmates haircuts and show them Jesus in the way he serves. Stephanie continues to serve on Sundays in worship, in Spanish translation for the messages, and in countless other capacities through the heart that God has gifted her to serve with, all while both continue leading their two daughters as well in joy, in love, in acts of service, and so much more.
Serving others is vitally important because life can be hard on people. We must meet others where they are, serve them where they are. These two exemplify this so well, but what’s stopping us today? What is stopping us from serving those who may need to see Jesus more than ever? What gifts did God give us to go shine today? What workplaces did He place us in to take the Gospel to? In a world that is so fast-paced and unrelenting, let us slow down, let us serve, let us meet others where they currently stand, maybe in a season of triumph, or possibly in their darkest hour. Do not be afraid, do not be intimidated, God has called us to be bold, so let us not waste another day waiting to serve others and reflect Jesus in the places and the lives He has placed us in, and the ones to come.
