Better Together
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”- Hebrews 10:24-25
A few weeks ago, I got into a conversation with a dear friend named Jonathan and he ended up telling me a story of how he and members of his family occasionally play Dungeons and Dragons. There are a few things that stood out to me as he told this story. 1. The joy he had telling it. When we stop and listen to people and allow them to express things in their lives that bring them joy, there are very few things in this life more encouraging than that. But I want to focus on a second part here: Community. You could tell as he spoke how much this community meant to him, how much these moments and D&D campaigns meant to him as he talked about it. What communities do we currently belong to? Are we participating with groups that bring us joy, comfort, peace, prayer and are spurring us on and pushing us forward? Or, like most is the world, are we trekking through life alone, trying to manage on our own. Let us stop that attempt, this life was never meant to be walked alone. This life was meant to be done right, because we are stronger together than we ever could be isolated. Think of the communities you belong to today, at church, in your life, give God gratitude for where He has you and who He has surrounded you with, but additionally, pray for those who may be searching for those groups, searching for somewhere to belong, possibly searching for Jesus, and lift them up, that they find the communities and groups God has for them, because that joy Jonathan had speaking about something like D&D, we should want that joy and sense of belonging for everyone.
