Let Him Have Control
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Your heart must not be troubled or fearful.”- John 14:27
We all have that first time flying on a plane experience. The first time experiencing takeoff, turbulence (always a great reality check) and landing (bonus points if you have people who clapped when the plane landed). There is another part of flying that often gets overlooked: Surrender. You see whether it is a 30 minute flight or an 8 hour flight to Bolivia, we are not in control for the duration of that flight and must surrender to a person we don’t even know. That’s where trust comes in, we may never see the pilot, but we trust them to get us to our destination safely, right? So why is it so hard to give God that same control and trust? I struggle immensely here, because naturally, we face may different things in the seasons of our lives. Grief, anxiousness, uncertainty with the future, heartbreak, doubt, the battle with self-worth, and so much more, and yet we try to navigate it ourselves. What I fail to remember is that turbulence is not something we are exonerated from in our walk with Christ, it’s a guarantee. I’m learning to surrender more and trust fully that the Lord is our pilot and we are the passenger. Yes, there will be turbulence, but He is in control, He will deliver us to the destinations He has already seen us through to because He knows us intimately. He knows the route He has us on and He will never abandon us. So let us learn to not lean on fear but trust in His peace and assurance. Let us give Him complete and total surrender when we don’t understand what’s happening of why, because even then, He is still worthy of our trust, our praise and glory, because of all He has done for us, and for what He will always do: Love, lead and be the pilot of our lives.
