“The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.”- Psalm 28:7
“Silently the senses abandon their defenses.”
Have you ever been in a situation where it was hard to trust someone? Let me take you back to 7th grade gym class. Dodgeball. A few friends and I had a brilliant plan: They create a wall around me, I tell them to duck and strategically take out those on the other team. Great plan, right? Well, it seemed that way until the wall scattered and there I was, a pale ginger in plain view to be destroyed by an opposing dodgeball. Needless to say, it was hard to trust my teammates after that. How many of us have been in a similar situation with God? We are hesitant to trust because something isn’t going according to our plan, or because we are hurting or in pain, our senses are heightened, and we try to do this life alone. I’ve been there, I’ve tried my best to handle things on my own and I fail, because I fail to trust the One who knows me better than anyone ever will. God isn’t a genie in a bottle, here to fulfill our every whim according to our plans. Our paths will have heartbreak, hurt, questions, doubts, anxiety and attacks from every direction from the enemy, but He is asking us to trust Him more and more every single day. He is a refuge that will never leave our side, we can take our deepest hurts to Him, and He won’t turn away, we can take our anxieties and worries and lay them at His feet and watch Him take our panic and turn it to peace. Lay your defenses down this morning, let trusting Him come as naturally as breathing, He knows us better than we will ever know ourselves, and we must spend time getting to know Him as well. Trust, surrender and watch as chains fall as His plans for us clearly fall into place.
